How to Make Money on Fiverr

Fiverr is the number one platform for people who want to start freelancing. It is beginner friendly clients come to you. You do not have to compete with hundreds to get a single project. However, since 2026 the platform got. It is now hard to navigate and learn without proper guidance. In this article I am going to talk about what’s Fiverr, its pros and cons and what changes have been made in the past year.

What Is Fiverr and How Does It Work?
Fiverr is a platform, where sellers create “gigs”. A gig is basically a description of a service that a seller offers with a price. For example one gig may be “I will edit your YouTube video”. The clients sign up search for the gigs that interest them and message the sellers to complete an order. Since the platform is the mediator between the two, the money for a gig is transferred to the seller only after the client received their ordered item.

What Is New on Fiverr?
Success score: A score that’s only visible to the seller and reflects their performance on the site. The higher it is the better gigs appear in search results.
Levels: A system where a seller can upgrade to a level (New Level 1 Level 2 Top Rated) and gain more visibility and gig capacity with each level.
Fiverr pro: A segment with high-quality gigs from professional sellers.
Prompt engineering/AI video editing/AI related gigs: A growing segment with opportunities for everyone.
Search relevance: If your gig does not match what the buyer is looking for it will not appear in search results.

Pros of Fiverr

Easy to get started: Anybody can sign up. Launch their first gig the same day.
Clients come to you: Unlike platforms you do not spend hours looking for companies that need your service. Instead they come to you once your gig reaches the page of Google search.
Secure payments: The money for your gig will only be transferred to you after the client received the product and left a review.
Good for beginners: With Fiverr you learn how to sell your service and work with clients.
Wide range of gigs: From YouTube editing to design, programming, copywriting and prompt engineering Fiverr has something for everyone.
Based on my experience Fiverr is a great place to understand how clients think and what exactly they want. By observing what gigs get the orders you can guess what trends are popular in the market.

Cons of Fiverr

High commission: Fiverr takes 20 percent of every order as a commission, which is a lot compared to other platforms. On top of that you will also have to pay Payoneer or local bank fees once the money gets withdrawn.
Competition: Popular gigs, such as logo design or YouTube editing are oversaturated, which means that it is hard to get a steady flow of clients.
Need to be persistent: Most sellers report that it takes a year or more to build a sustainable workflow on Fiverr. If your gigs are not getting orders you may give up at the point where everything’s about to change.
Prices: Some clients look for cheaper options so you will constantly have to adjust your rates.
Risk of account ban: Any attempt to circumvent the system, such as removing the requirement to contact on Fiverr will get your account banned.

How to Get Your First Order on fiverr?
Choose a niche: When starting on Fiverr it’s crucial to specialize. Of being a general video editor you may offer YouTube editing services for gamers. More specificity equals searchability.
Search Fiverr: After deciding on your niche type your desired gigs on Fiverr. Look at the search suggestions. They will show the long tail keywords that you may use for your gig title.
Set up three pricing options: To avoid confusion set up three packages (starter, standard, premium) and describe exactly what is included.
Showcase your work: Make sure the images and videos on your gig are appealing. Reflect your professionalism. Quality work speaks for itself. If possible add a short sample video.
Communication : Answer questions The faster you respond the more chances there are that the client will choose you.
Do not set prices low: Cheap gigs attract scammers and demanding clients that will expect much for a low price. Set a price and increase it later when you have a good amount of positive feedback.
Be persistent: Getting the first order may take longer than you expect.

Is Fiverr Worth It in 2026?
In my opinion Fiverr is a tool for beginners but a mediocre platform that makes you dependent on a company that cares little about your performance. I would advise not to rely on Fiverr but to build relationships with clients in social media, LinkedIn and elsewhere. That way you do not risk losing all your clients because of a policy update.

Final Thoughts
Fiverr can get you clients. Most likely not enough to sustain a living. If you are just starting out in freelancing it is a chance to build experience learn what the audience wants and hone your skills. However I would not recommend using it as the source of income because of its competitiveness and Fiverrs cut of your earnings. Remember, that the quality of your work determines everything. Pick a niche, specialize, invest time and effort and Fiverr will reward you. Here are some yt videos for beginners !
